Schema Therapy
Master Series
Advanced training intensives in individual schema therapy with Travis Atkinson, pioneer in the field and Honorary Lifetime Member of the ISST.
Mastery, not certification.
The Schema Therapy Master Series is for clinicians who have already completed schema therapy certification coursework and want to deepen the work that comes next.
ISST certification gives you the foundation. The Master Series gives you what happens when the foundation meets a real client who is dissociating, a Punitive Parent that will not soften, an Angry Child that derails every chair dialogue. This is mastery in individual schema therapy with today’s best approaches, focused on the harder work, the longer arc, and the moments where the textbook stops being useful.
It is not required for ISST certification. The hours and the practice may, however, count toward and qualify you to practice well beyond it.
Completion of schema therapy certification coursework. Currently in a certification cohort? You are welcome. New to schema therapy? Begin with the certification pathway first.
Most schema therapy training stops at the certification line. You finish the curriculum, you pass the rating, and then you are on your own with the harder work: a dissociating client mid-session, a Punitive Parent that will not soften, an Angry Child that derails every chair dialogue. The textbook does not help here. Recorded courses do not help here. Most supervision groups do not survive long enough to help here.
The Master Series intensives are built for the work that comes after certification. Nine hours of live training across three sessions, capped at thirty clinicians, focused on one intervention at a time. You watch the technique demonstrated, you practice it in small groups, and you bring your own cases to the integration session.
About Travis Atkinson
Travis Atkinson is a pioneer in the field of schema therapy. He trained directly with Jeffrey Young at the Cognitive Therapy Center of New York beginning in the mid-1990s and worked alongside Dr. Young for more than a decade as the model was being built. With Wendy Behary, he is among the small group of clinicians who helped develop schema therapy into what it is today.
He is a co-developer of schema therapy for couples, the clinician who brought the EFT and Gottman expertise that shaped the model’s treatment of emotional process between partners. In couples work the field is narrower still: most schema therapy trainers have a fraction of his clinical hours in the model, and in the couples space, there is no comparable depth.
He has been practicing schema therapy since 1994. In 2020, the International Society of Schema Therapy named him an Honorary Lifetime Member, a distinction held by only a small number of clinicians worldwide.
