About the Training

What is Schema Therapy?+

Schema Therapy is an evidence-based, integrative model developed by Jeffrey Young for the clients who plateau in standard cognitive and behavioral work. It combines cognitive, behavioral, attachment, and experiential methods to reach the deep emotional patterns, called schemas, that form early in life and drive recurring difficulty. It gives clinicians a live map of what is happening in the room and concrete methods to change it.

What makes STTC different from other Schema Therapy training?+

We are an ISST-approved institute that teaches the model with the depth it was designed for. Cohorts are capped at 20, taught live by faculty who helped shape the field, including a therapist who trained directly with Jeffrey Young. You practice the model experientially rather than only hearing about it, alongside an international community of peers.

Is the training recognized by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST)?+

Yes. STTC is an ISST-approved training program. The coursework meets the standards set by the ISST and counts toward certification as an Individual or Couples Schema Therapist.

Who It Is For

Who should enroll?+

Licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists, who work with adults or couples and want a structured, evidence-based approach to complex and treatment-resistant presentations.

Do I need prior Schema Therapy experience?+

No. The programs are designed to take committed clinicians from foundations through to advanced, integrated practice, whether or not you have worked with the model before.

I trained in a different modality. Will this fit my practice?+

Yes. Schema Therapy is integrative by nature. Clinicians from CBT, ACT, DBT, EFT, Gottman, psychodynamic, IFS, EMDR, and other backgrounds consistently find the model deepens their existing work rather than replacing it.

Format & Schedule

Is the training live or self-paced?+

Every session is live and interactive over Zoom. Teaching blends didactic instruction with live demonstrations, guided role plays, and instructor feedback, so you leave each week with something you can use immediately.

When does the next cohort run?+

The Fall 2026 Individual cohort runs live online, weekly, beginning September 10 and continuing through December 17. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and seats are limited.

What are the technical requirements?+

A computer or mobile device with a stable internet connection and a recent version of Zoom. A webcam, microphone, and headphones are recommended so you can take part fully in demonstrations and role plays.

Will I have access to materials after the program?+

Yes. Participants keep ongoing access to session recordings, handouts, and case materials so you can revisit the work long after the cohort ends.

Certification

Does this program certify me as a Schema Therapist?+

The program provides the required coursework hours toward ISST certification. The Individual track delivers all 42 hours of coursework toward Individual Schema Therapist certification. Full ISST certification also requires separate consultation and competency requirements, which are completed outside the coursework.

What is the difference between the Individual and Couples certification?+

The Individual track (ST-I) is 42 hours across 14 sessions and prepares you to work with individual adults. The Couples track (ST-C) is 33 hours across 11 sessions and focuses on applying Schema Therapy to relational dynamics between partners. Each track fulfills the coursework toward its respective ISST certification.

Are supervision and mentorship available?+

Yes. Beyond the coursework, we offer supervision that follows the same regional affordability structure as the training. Supervision supports the separate consultation and competency requirements for full ISST certification.

Do you provide CEUs?+

Because our cohorts draw participants from many professions and countries, we do not offer profession-specific continuing education credits. The coursework is designed around ISST certification, which is the credential the training leads toward.

Tuition & Payment

How much does the training cost?+

Tuition is calibrated to the cost of living in your region, so the same training and credential remain within reach worldwide. Individual certification ranges from $495 to $1,695 depending on tier, and Couples certification from $395 to $1,295. Full details by track and country are on the tuition page.

Are payment plans available?+

Yes. Every tier offers an instalment option in addition to paying in full, so tuition can be spread across the program rather than paid at once.

How is my tuition tier determined?+

Your tier is set by your country of residence, based on regional cost of living. The training itself is identical for every participant, in the same cohort, on the same material, toward the same certification.

Is there support for clinicians in Ukraine or facing hardship?+

Yes. Clinicians residing in Ukraine are eligible for humanitarian tuition, with five honorary seats reserved per cohort and a two-year window to complete sessions disrupted by the war. Additional Ukrainian applicants may enroll at the lowest standard tier.

Policies & Applying

How do I apply?+

Applications for the Fall 2026 cohorts are open and reviewed on a rolling basis. You apply through our short application form, and after acceptance you receive a tuition invoice with your regional tier confirmed. Seats are limited and cohorts fill.

What is the refund and transfer policy?+

Tuition is nonrefundable. If you cannot complete a program, you may transfer to any future cohort within one year of your original start date at no additional charge. Ukrainian participants under the humanitarian policy have a two-year transfer window for war-related disruption.

Are there countries you cannot enroll?+

Enrollment is not currently available to applicants based in Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Myanmar, Russia, Syria, or Zimbabwe, due to U.S. sanctions or payment processing restrictions.
